Hello! Does anyone have the "official" upgrade path from SEP 11 to SEP 12 Enterprise? I've been looking, but haven't found the answer yet. Thanks!

 SEP 12 Enterprise is not

SEP 12 Enterprise is not available at this time. That is due to release in the second half of 2011.

All upgrade documents for that version will be available later in the year.

Moving this thread to the Endpoint Protection forum.

Best,

Thomas

I am still in the middle of

I am still in the middle of deploying SEP 11.0.6. Is there a big reason to move to SEP 12?

@ Khue, I am sure there will

@ Khue, I am sure there will be many reasons to upgrade to SEP 12 once it becomes available. There should be many changes as well as new features in the next version. As with any software, you need to stay current to take advantage of new features/functionality of the product.

I think there is a small but

I think there is a small but important issue to be made clear since many persons are at odds with an official naming of Symantec products. There are three Symantec Endpoint Protection products of which 2 are now available. These are the following:

- Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x (currently 11.0.6200 RU6 MP2)

- Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.x Small Business Edition, a.k.a. Symantec Protection Center (currently 12.0.1)

Although SEP SBE has a codename that could indicate that it is more "advanced" or more modern than SEP 11.x, that is definitely not a case.

The incoming SEP 12.x (codename "Amber") will be a de-facto replacer of SEP 11.x on the current market for corporate AV solutions. As it was mentioned earlier, it should be available in second part of 2011 at the earliest.

Is there a product map for

Is there a product map for estimated release times for future SEP based products? It seems like SEP 11.x was just released and now I will have to look at upgrading again to SEP 12 in the middle of the year. Albeit we were probably on SAV a little longer then we should have been, there were other obstacles for us to overcome prior to moving to SEP.

Auxiliary question: Will the upgrade process be easier then 10.x to 11.x? Hopefully the upgrade will be as easy as going from SEP 11.x to 11.x MR2.

SEP 11 was released in Sep

SEP 11 was released in Sep 2007, with the first stable MR3 build in Oct 2008.  It's March 2011.  Not just released as you say.

If you want product roadmaps, pay more attention in these forums, as insiders seem to leak it at times.  Or contact your local Symantec sales rep for at least a verbal timeline, anything written or formally presented will require an NDA signed.

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."

Unfortunately, the product

Unfortunately, the product roadmap is not public facing. SEP first shipped in September 07, that makes the product nearly 3.5 years old now.

As for your last question, I cannot comment, due to the fact that I do not know what changes will make it to RTM. In addition, I do not have "hands on" experience with SAV to SEP migrations.

Long story short. You don't

Long story short. You don't upgrade SAV to SEP. You just install SEPM and deploy it one client at a time. The installer for SEP is nice enough to uninstall SAV, but installing SEP over a WAN based network is about as painful as anything I have ever had to do.

SEP 11 to 12 upgrade

It is not possible to upgrade from version 11 to Version 12. Installation of version 12 will not over write the version 11
Uninstall all the clients of version 11 and re-install the Version 12 of EPSBE.

I believe Desert Rose is

I believe Desert Rose is speaking of the SEP 12 Small Business product. You can upgrade the SEP 11 to SEP 12 client only.

What is the migration path for SEP 12 SBE?
Migration detects and migrates installations of the following Symantec legacy virus protection software:

  • SAV Corporate Edition 9.x and 10.x
  • Symantec Client Security (SCS) 2.x and 3.x
  • SEP 11 (client only)

Fisrt of all you should

Fisrt of all you should understand that SEP 12 is not an upgraded version of SEP 11. The latest SEP upgrade available is SEP 11.0.6MP2. Hence the SAV or the SEP 11 cannot be migrated to SEP 12.

We're stuck on speculations here since there is no official word yet. But I'm guessing that their migration paths remain the same. Since it is a new version, it probably has the ability to upgrade or uninstall previous SEP ent versions.

The only thing I could think of that might be of concern is if there are SAV clients or the current SEP is an upgrade from SAV which might use different entries in the directory and registry structure. We did have some problems in SAV to SEP after the initial install. So we just changed the installation procedures to completely uninstall SAV first before installing SEP.

Whose bright idea was it to

Whose bright idea was it to name the Small Business Edition as version 12?   The same thing happened with Ghost.

teiva-boy - Will you also be waiting until Q4 2012 before a stable SEP12 MR3 version is out?  We only just started deploying 11 because the list of fixe for each maintenance release was huge.  We waited until the list got smaller for each release before we figured the product was stable enough for the big time.
