Bandwidth utilization depends on the data to be transfered and and availability...
If you are talking about the upgrading SEP from install package than all pc's should get the package so bandwith utilization will be high...
When you have 40MB to transfer on 256Kbps link it may take 21min... (if full bandwidth is available for SEP).
For bandwith issue you can use one of the following ideas.
There is a option in router to set the percentage of bandwidth for particular kind of traffic(ie QOS). Using QOS you can limit the traffic related to antivirus to 50% or 60% based on your need... this will not consume full bandwidth and slot will be available for other application.
You can try Altiris for Client upgrade.... It has something like GUP(package server) which can be used to distribute one setup package to all other clients in that group.... It has a bandwidth throttling setting also which is very handy...
I think Bandwidth throttling setting is for GUP only not for upgrade....
After MR5 upgrade i have not seen any high bandwidth utilization in update....
as i know upgarde from remote
as i know upgarde from remote install ( using SEPM) will be around 15 MB per client...if somebody has differeent answers please let me know...
Bandwidth throttling is addressed in GUP and IIS can be set for the same as well..
