  • 1.  Upgrade SEPM Version and SQL Server

    Posted Jan 21, 2015 01:40 PM

    Hi all,

I've an infrastructure composed as follows:

2 replicated sites with, each one:
     - 1 SEP Manager 12.1 RU2
     - 1 SQL Server 2005

I want to upgrade both SEP Manager to 12.1 RU5 and both SQL Server to 2008.

Could you tell me the best way to do this? I mean, stop replication, export db, upgrade SQL Server, reimport DB, upgrade SEPM... and so on, all your ideas will be useful.

    Thanks!

Yes, you need to disable replication, do the upgrade, re-enable replication. Make sure you have a backup first as well.

May as well start by upgrading the DB first:

Migrating to Microsoft SQL 2008 from a previous version

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

I would suggest to perform it in two phase

    Phase 1:

Step 1: Create an upgrade plan
Step 2: Back up and prepare for disaster recovery (critical)
Step 3: Prepare Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x managers

    • Disable replication
    • Disable the "Protect client files and registry keys" Application Control Policy
    • Remove client packages assigned to the client groups

    Step 4: Enable local authentication
Step 5: Stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service
Step 6: Upgrade the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
Step 7: Enable replication after upgrading
Step 8: Upgrade the Symantec Endpoint Protection clients

Best practices for upgrading or migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.5 (RU5)

Let the clients start communication with new manager, let the replication complete successfully.

If everything looked good plan for phase 2.

    Phase 2:
