  • 1.  Upgrade SEPM11 ru5 to SEPM 12.1ru1 - server 08?

    Posted Apr 18, 2012 02:56 PM

    Hello

I am upgrading my current SEPM server to server 2008.  It will retain the same ip and hostname.  My plan is to backup the server according to disaster recovery best practices document, then clean install Server 2008, install SEPM 12.1 ru1 and import the backed up database from ver. 11.  I know I will then have to import the backed up certificate for the server.  After I perform those steps, should I begin to see my old clients checking in?  Will there be any other manual step(s) I will need to take?

    thanks

    Hi,

you cannot backup the DB on SEP 11 and restore it on 12.1, it's technically illegal, the wizard will stop you.

I would first migrate the current manager to 12.1 and then move it to the other server with the disaster recovery procedure for 12.1 (it is not the same for 11). This is just to not waste time on installing IIS in the new server as required by SEP 11 if you want run the migration after moving the SEPM.

    Hello,

I agree with Beppe and Dcomp.

Since the Database Schema are different in each Version, your plan may not be successful.

    Check this: -

    For SEP 11.x,

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC2411

    For SEP 12.1,

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4324

In your case, what I would recommend you is -

    1) Migrate from SEP 11.x to SEP 12.1

    2) Perform the Disaster recovery steps for SEP 12.1 http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH160736

    3) Install New SQL 2008

    4) Install New SEP 12.1

    5) Restore the Database.

    Check these Articles:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH171767

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH174821

    Hope that helps!!
