  • 1.  upgrade to symantec endpoint protection 12.1.2(RU2)

    Posted Jun 13, 2013 09:37 AM

    I have symantec enpoint protection more specifically the server manager and clients have the ekdosi11.0.6005.562.
    Is scheduled to be upgraded to new version of symantec endpoint protection 12.1.2 (RU2).

    My questions are the following:

    1) When i download the new version will have to run a special exe or directly from the setup that will have the new version will become the upgrade;

    2) Will keep the policies i have in the current issue or i will have to create from scratch?

    3) Is any way to erase from the home tab some alerts that shows me?

    You run the setup.exe file from the SEPM folder.

    Yes, policies will be kept in place.

    What type of alerts are referring to?

    Also, just so you know, 12.1 RU3 just came out last week. I would suggest going to that if you can. See below:

    Hello,

    Answers:

    1) When i download the new version will have to run a special exe or directly from the setup that will have the new version will become the upgrade;

    Once the Download of SEP 12.1 RU3 takes place, you would have to unzip the DVD and run the setup.exe to Migrate the SEPM from your earlier version.

    Please follow the Best Practices to Migrate from the Earlier version of SEP 11.x to the SEP 12.1 RU3.

    Best practices for upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.x

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163700

    2) Will keep the policies i have in the current issue or i will have to create from scratch?

    Yes, it would keep the same policies from your earlier SEPM.

    3) Is any way to erase from the home tab some alerts that shows me?

    Upon Migration, I don't think you would see the alerts which you had seen in the older version.

    Secondly, I would suggest you to Migrate all the SEP client to the Latest version of SEP 12.1 RU3.

    You assign both the 32/64 bit patch to the group. They will take it accordingly.

    What is the best way with autoupgrade or with liveupdate  policy?

    Autoupgrade is the best way, LU policy of clients will update only definitions, product updates are only availabe on SEPM not on the clients, the clients have to take the update only from SEPM ( auto upgrade) or push deployment.

    Hello,

    AutoUpgrade is the correct method to migrate all the clients to the latest version.

    How to upgrade Symantec Endpoint Protection clients by using Auto-Upgrade

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH96789

    LiveUpdate policy is used for Liveupdate definitions and minor product updates / releases. However, this could not be used for upgrading the client machines.

    I believe you are talking about the "Product Update Settings" in the Liveupdate policy. Please check the Article below:
