Upgrade SYMC 3.0 to 4.0

Created: 25 Feb 2013 | 10 comments

Dear All,

We are running SYMC PROTECTION SUITE ENTERPRISE EDITION 3.0. One Server and 30 clients.

I just recieved the license for SYMC PROTECTION SUITE ENTERPRISE EDITION 4.0.

I dont know how to upgrade and where to start. Please guide me the right path.

We have 8GB of DB size for SEPM, we can not shrink it because that tool work for SYMC 12 and above only while we have SYMC V11.

Another important point is that we have SEPM installed on our Primary Domain Controller. So I dont have options for any try, I must proceed safely and should sucessfully upgrade it in one go.

And finally we have SEP client installed on same server where SEPM is installed.

Please guide me.

Thank you.

Also, when I tried running Symantec Help it is showing 1 Error and 6 Warnings:

1 Error: SEPC
No SepM IIS virtual directories exist which are properly located in the directory C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Inetpub\:. Check the report "Is Microsoft IIS correctly configured for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager?"

Hello,

I believe you have run the SymHelp utility on the machine where Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is not installed, correct?

If yes, that could be the reason you are seeing this error.

Hope that helps!!

If you have SPS 3.0 that means you should have SEP 11.0 installed hence download installables for SEP 12.1.2 from https://fileconnect.symantec.com using your serial number and follow Best practices for upgrading to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2 as mentioned by mihtun above

2) Should I uninstall Symantec Endpoint Client from server before I upgrade SEPM?

3) When I tried to download 12.1.2 version, it does not work, it ask for serial number then language, again language and then serial number again.

Answers:

Is that SEPM running without any issues cirrently??

If yes, you may then go ahead with the Migration and check if that helps. Just make sure you perform a Disaster Recovery Procedure for full backup.

2) Should I uninstall Symantec Endpoint Client from server before I upgrade SEPM?

Uninstallation of SEP 11.x client is not required.

3) When I tried to download 12.1.2 version, it does not work, it ask for serial number then language, again language and then serial number again.

Check these Articles which would assist you with the download -

I am trying to backup DB for disaster recover. When I check the backup file I cant extract it or open it, this says file is corrupted.

The DB is 8GB while backupfile is 550MB...SEPM is working fine.
