Upgrade SYMC BE 12.5 to 2012 with IBM Libraly Tape TS3100

Created: 21 May 2013 | 1 comment

I’m currently running Windows 2008 x64 + SYMC Backup Exec 12.5 which is connected IBM Library Tape TS3100 in our production environment.

I have recently purchased all the BE 2012 licenses which is referred old version (12.5) on hand, for my jobs as follows:

  1. Pre/Post command to backup VM image from SAN (VCB Command) to Local drive (D:\...) because I have planned to purchase VMware Agent in next year
  2. Backup all VM image data to Tape
  3. Backup up data from file-server to disk
  4. Job link from above task to backup all data to tape
  5. Backup all Application servers (Exchange 2010, SQL 2008R2, Data on D drive)
  6. Backup BE Catalog and Data Folders

For my idea as following:

  1. Read the Best practices for Backup Exec 2012 installation
  2. Backup Data and catalog currently
  3. In-place upgrade

Hope you kind suggest me about further information to do this (ie. IBM Tape Driver, Agent service)

Thank you very much for any advice and guidance

Your tape library should be supported by BE 2012.  You can check the particular model in the HCL below

You can also check your software compatibility using the SCL below
