  • 1.  Upgrading from 11.x to 12

    Posted May 10, 2012 08:33 AM

I am going to be upgrading SEP from 11.x Clients to 12...

Once I do this, I want to know if the clients will still report to the SEPM 12 server. I would hope so, so that they may contunine to receive updates.

I would like to know, what I need to back up on the SEPM server, if the clients will continue to report after the SEPM has been transitioned from 11 to 12 and what other steps are necessary to get all of the clients from 11 to 12 after the SEPM server has been migrated to 12.

    Thank you

    Hi Bryan S,

Take a backup of existing SEPM.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102333

Download SEP 12.1 RU1 & Start upgrade process.

Check this article to learn more about upgrade process

After successful upgrade, activate your license & use auto upgrade to upgrade existing SEP clients.

    Hello,

Migrating from Symantec Endpoint Protection v.11.x clients to Install Symantec Endpoint Protection v.12.1. could migrate flawlessly without any issues.

It is always recommended to perform a Disaster Recovery for SEPM 11.x before Migrating to SEP 12.1 as a Backup step.

Here are few steps to look at for Migration:

    1) How to upgrade the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) to Version 12.1 RU1

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH176260

    2) Upgrading and migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163602

    3) Steps to prepare computers to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 client

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163112

    4) Activating your Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 product license

Also, check the Articles for the Migration on :

    Hope that helps!!

This is still an excellent post as I am about to upgrade our environment to SEP 12.1 RU1 (then later MP1) from SEP 11.x.

SEPM is installed on a VM, instead of following "SEP 11.x best practices for disaster recovery" can I just make a snapshot (still making a backup of the DB regardless of the method of course) and if I need to revert back to SEP 11.x for whatever reason I just 1. restore the backup of the DB 2. revert back to snapshot of VM?

Create a new 12.1 package and set this so it reports to new server:
