How is the best way for upgrading 2010 R2 to R3?

Is the Upgrade possible throught LiveUpdate or do I have to install from the R3 DVD?

No it's not possible through liveupdate. You can install only hotfixes/patches through live update.

You have to install R3 manually.

Download R3 from www.backupexec.com You will have to download 4 ISO files along with the

script which combines 4 ISO files into 1. Total size of the ISO is 3.47GB.

Follow these steps

1) Stop SQL server BKUPEXEC service and take backup of DATA & CATALOGS folder

2) Extract or burn the ISO of R3

3) Run the browser,exe

4) Once upgrade is complete you will need to update the remote agents too.

Note: DATA & CATALOGS are located at X:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec.
