Hi, i'm looking at upgrading one of our customers backup exec to 2010 r3. is it ok to use the ISO from the trailware site? or will this just install the trial?

They currently use backup exec 2010 r2 and are fully licenced.

Any help is appreciated as they havn't had a good backup for near a month now!

Thanks

Hi,

Grab copies of the Data/Catalogs first. Download the ISO and mount/burn to DVD, and then run the upgrade. You can use the same licenses which is great.

Once done, run Liveupdate on the media server to install the latest SP and any additional patches, and then push-install to your remote servers.

Thanks!

Yes you can use the trailware from the site. It is a fully functional copy of Backup Exec. While upgrading Backup Exec 2010 R2 to R3, the same licenses are used and this would convert that trialware to a fully functional Licensed copy.

Thank you very much for your help. its now upgraded and pending server reboot.

...if you can't reboot now, you CAN fool BE into believing the server has rebooted. Open up the registry on your media server/remote server (back it up first!), and check for the PatchReboot key under HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\SOFTWARE\Symantec and delete this. Otherwise a scheduled reboot is always best.

Thanks!
