  • 1.  Upgrading to DS6.9SP5- controlling rollout of aclient/dagent

    Will be upgrading the Deployment Solution to 6.9SP5 from SP4.  I want to control the schedule of how the aclient and dagent get rolled out as I don't want all 1000 station to receive the agent at the same time as we do have users in one critical area working 24/7

     

    Am I right in thinking that I have to move the system job "Update Altiris Agent" out of the system jobs folder until after I get as many stations updated as possibleby scheduling a separate copy file job where I can control the schedule of the update as in the included graphic?

    This is actually a lot more easy than you think. If you are to keep the existing Static IP Address for your Deployment Console, after upgrading they will automatically report to the DS.

    When upgrading, there is no need to establish a new SQL DB. Keep your existing DB and there will be no need to import export anything.

     

    If you are establishing a new Static IP for your DS SP5, then before bringing down your SP4, select all clients, right click, click on "Change Agent Settings" > "Production Agent" > change the "Address/Hostname" to the new Static IP your SP5 will have and they will automatically report to that IP.

    Like I said I was worried about having hundreds of clients trying to update the aclient all at once over the network after updating the current server

    Anyways, found this blog entry which said that only 15 clients can be updated concurrently.  Which makes life sane for me
