Upgrading to NS 7
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 3 comments
Hey everyone,
We have NS 6.0, Helpdesk, Inventory Solution, and Deployment solution installed on one server.
What is the upgrade path like to NS 7.0 or CMS if I am correct? Is any keen to share there experience for upgrading to the latest version on the same hardware.
My main concerns is the Helpdesk and Deployment Solution which is used alot.

Wait
Helpdesk is being changed to Service Desk, which is not available yet.
There are on-box and off-box upgrade options, however only CMS is currently available in v7.

Off box
You would need to break your CMS and DS off to a seperate system in order to upgrade. Then you need to connect Helpdesk to CMS to get the infromation over via something like Connector Solution 6.
But as Jim says, Wait until Service Desk comes out

Don't take the upgrade lightly
And as Jonathan and others have pointed out, don't upgrade to 7 just because it's available. You should consider this a major implementation, even with a small business.
If at all possible, build a test environment, VM's work fine, and do some testing. After the difficulty I experienced during the stone age upgrading from 5.5 to 6 (or was it square wheel to round?), I would recommend the off-box upgrade if financially and technically possible.
