Upgrading from SAVCE 10.2 to EndPoint Protection Problems

Hi Guys,

We are in the process of testing a migration to EndPoint Protection.  I have set up a small test network consisting of a single server running SAVCE 10.2 and the Symantec System Center and a couple of clients.  The server is Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 and is a DC.  It is also configured as the primary server for SAV.

When i run the server installer for EndPoint protection on the server I get the following error message:

"Ad old version of Symantec System Center has been detected. Please uninstall SSC prior to installing Symantec Endpoint Protection".

and the installation is blocked.

I was under the impression from the install guide that I should install Endpoint, Migrate the clients, then uninstall SSC and finally install the client on the server. But this doesn't let me do this - so am I following the wrong instructions or is there another problem?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Re: Upgrading SAV 10.2

You are following the right instructions.
You have to remove the SSC before you can install the SEP client.
Once the SEP client is installed (and you have rebooted the machine) you can re-install the SSC again.
If you are installing a client, and the destination PC has only a SAV client installed, you do not need to uninstall the SAV client. The SEP client installation should take care of that SAV uninstall.

As JohnSn said you need toi

As JohnSn said you need toi uninstall SSC, and SSC is not a part of Symantec AV Server, it's just management console that you can install on any PC. It just happens that it's also installed on main AV server ;) Also if you have SSC installed on any normal PC then migration to 11 won't work - same procedure to follow (uninstall SSC).
