Upgrading SEP 11.x
Hi all,
I'm new to SEP and the forums and am taking over for a previous sysadmin. I'm attempting to upgrade our server's SEP 11.0.4014.26 to at least 11.0.7 to support a new Windows 7 workstation that was just set up (all others are still running XP). I read that there may be an update available from 11.x to 12.x, but am a bit confused. Is this a paid upgrade or a free upgrade? I have the paper certificate with the serial number for the 5 user Business pack, but when I try to register the product under Symantec licensing, it tells me that this product does not need a license key. I also do not know the customer number as it was purchased before my time, so when I attempt to upgrade the license, it asks for either the license key or customer number.
Any help you can provide would be wonderful. Thanks.

Hi,
Q. I read that there may be an update available from 11.x to 12.x, but am a bit confused. Is this a paid upgrade or a free upgrade?
--> It's a free upgrade for all the existing SEP 11.x customers.
Why we should upgrade to SEP 12.1 check this article.
Few differences between SEP 11.x and SEP 12.1 EE
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/f...
SEP 11.x licensing is basically just a "paper" license product. However, with SEP 12.1 the licensing is a "software" license product and uses a license file.
You can download the latest software at https://fileconnect.symantec.com, you need a serial number to download software, Serial number starts with 'M' e.g. M1122334455
If you don't have serial number then please contact Symantec license department.

Thanks for the quick response!
When I attempt to download from fileconnect.symantec.com using the serial number, it only shows an 11.0.7 download, not a 12.x download. Is this correct?
We do have a server and domain setup, so the managed solution would work for us.
It looks like our current version 11.0.4014.26 (MR4 MP1a) is supported for an upgrade to 12.1.671.4971 (RTM) or higher
Hi,

--> It's possible however in that case you can contact Symantec license department to provide you new serial number.

If you are planning to upgrade from 11.0.4014.26 (MR4 MP1a) to 12.1.671.4971 (RTM) or higher then it's supported upgrade path. I would suggest upgrade directly to SEP 12.1 RU2. SEP 12.1 RU2 is the latest version.
