Upgrading to SEP 12.1.4 (do I have to purchase new licenses?)

  • 1.  Upgrading to SEP 12.1.4 (do I have to purchase new licenses?)

    Posted Dec 23, 2013 01:46 PM

I will need to upgrade from 12.1.1000.157 to 12.4 in January so that I can install on newly purchased Win 8 PC's.

In reading through the "Upgrading or migrating to SEP 12.1.3 (RU3)" document,
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH206823, it says under the "Manage product licenses" that I "will have 60 days to purchase and activate a license that covers all of your deployed clients."

Is this correct...do I have to purchase NEW licenses for just an UPGRADE?

    Thanks!

You should be covered if your current client count does not exceed the amount of licenses you own.

Just make sure your license covers the amount of clients you have. If you are overdeployed, the SEPM will warn you but will not stop updating for SEP Enterprise.

If you need more licenses than you can purchase more if you wish.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

Could you please provide the following info.

    1) Total number of clients in the network including managed and unmanaged clients?

    2) Go to the license tab and see total how many seats are purchased?

    3) It's a Enterprise Edition or Small Business Edition?

Ideally, upgrade is free of cost to all license customers. You can apply an existing license to a product upgrade.

Can refer this article: SEP 12.1 & license concept.

You are running with 12.1.1 so just only upgrade the version with 12.1.4. No need to purchase the different license for upgrade.

    Chetan,

Here is the info you requested last week (sorry, I've been out of town!)...

    1)  we have 25 clients

    2)   25 licenses that expires Feb 2015
5 licenses that expire June 2015

    3)  We have Enterprise Edition

Thanks for your information to date.  It seems that I can do the upgrade and no need to purchase addtional licenses.  Agree?

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update.

You can do upgrade from 12.1.1000.157 to 12.4 without any issue.

Follow the best practice before doing an upgrade.
