This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

I'm thinking this shouldn't be a difficult endeavour, but I can't seem to get this completed.

The error that I am receiving after running the setup.exe is: "The installation cannot finish because it detected that one or more Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager applications are running. Click OK to roll back to the previous version."

I did have one replication partner but I've deleted that from the configuration and have wen into the services and stopped each Symantec service running (including Symantec Management Client). I don't see anything in the preparation document that covers this and I don't know which service it's referring to; as an aside, I've also tested the DB connection via ODBC just in case that had anything to do with the failure, but the embedded DB engine is stopped-so that may be overkill).

Any ideas what is causing this error? This is very frustrating not being able to find anything about this particular error (which sounds so straight forward!).

Thanks for any assistance.

What version

What version of OS are you running?

Disable or set to manual the SEPM services and than reboot the system.

Once done, there should no longer be anymore open connections to the machine.

Try and upgrade after that.

Check process in task manager

  1. Check process in task manager semsrv.exe end it
  2. Stop all Sepm services before upgrade from services console
  3. Make sure free space on c:\ is sufficient enough
  4. Restart Windows installer service once
  5. Login to this machine as domain admin
  6. Execute the setup
  7. If this is 2008 run the set up as admin right click run as admin
  8. Sepm 12.1 does use IIS and Apache hence make sure IIS is ok
  9. A reboot and install might help
  10. Follow document below
  11. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...
  12. However making changes to DCOM usually i wont prefer .Do not make if this is an DC .
  13. Make sure pending file is removed from reg
  14. HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\SESSIONMANAGER in the right pane if you see pendinfilerenamekey delete it and then install .

Hi,Go to task manager, click

Hi,

SEPM window is open in one of the login session.

Go to the task manager, click on users tab, screen shot is attached for your reference

Connect to every session, to connect right click on username  & click on connect, after successful connection, check for any Symantec windows, if it's open close it. logoff from the console.

Login to the SEPM console with mstsc /admin credentials, you will get ' 0' id i.e admin login.

You will be able to successfully upgrade SEPM.

I hope it will help you !!!

Thanks and Regards,

Thanks everyone! It turns out

Thanks everyone!

It turns out the issue was what Chetan mentioned-there was another user logged in to the server and apparently another instance of SEPM running as well. I logged that user out, stopped all of the services and was able to complete the upgrade.

Thank you again!
