Upgrading from version 9.1 of Veritas to 12 of Backup Exec. - How easy ??
I have called Veritas to find out how easy it is to upgrade from version 9.1 to Symantec Backup exec 12.
They have flattly refused to tell me and say that I need to buy a support contract. The cost to upgrade is 2,800 dollars. So before I consider upgrading I would like to find out if I really should, there are other backups out there.
The real concern is that we have many Jobs that need to be run. I would rather not rewrite all the jobs all over again. Can anyone tell me if the new version 12 software can import the previous jobs on 9.1. Im simply tring to prevent there from
A. being down time. eg while Im re writing the new jobs it means nothing is being backed up and
B. to save myself the work of re doing/writing all the jobs.
Has anyone got any answers or input.
Thanks.

How to migrate from BEWS 9.x / 10.x Data and catalogs to a fresh installation of 11d or above on a different server with a different server name using BEMIG.EXE
After using that, you should be able to onverlay on place withj v12 or v12.x

Thank you for your response.
This seems to say that you must install the software on a new server. What it seems to indicate is that you can't upgrade on the same server. Does this mean that there is no way to upgrade from 9 to 12 on the same computer.

HI
YOU CANNOT DIRECTLY UPGRADE FROM 9.0 TO 12.0 .FIRST UPGRADE FROM 9 TO 10D AND THEN FROM 10D TO 12.0 .
YOU CAN INSTALL BE 10 IN EVALUATION MODE , WHILE RUNNING THE INSTALLATION OF BE 10D , IT WILL ASK IF YOU WANT TO SAVE OLD SETTINGS ,
THANKS

Thanks for your response. I wonder why the document from Veritas does not talk about upgrading on the same machine, but specifically to a different machine. I wonter if they have had problems ??

Sorry I mis-understood what you were asking, but hte other response to upgrade to v10d in demo mode and then upgrade that using your v12 serial(s)
You can download v10d here

Thanks for the info. I dont suppose anyone who has done this can tell me if it is a painfull process fraught with issues or if it is reasonably seamless.
I really cant imagine it will be easy?
