URGENT EV 9.0.1 32bit to EV 10 upgrade

Created: 29 Mar 2013 • Updated: 02 Apr 2013 | 12 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We are currently running ev 9.0.1 on windows 2003 32bit and wanted to know if I can migrate directly to Ev 10 64bit?

Or do we need to upgrade our version to ev 9 64bit first?

I have read the x64 upgrade document and that not very clear for what I am looking for.

Please advise.

Thank you

EV 10 only runs on Windows 2008R2.

So if you install a new server, based on 2008R2, you can migrate the EV configuration with the EV Server sttings migration wizard:

Yes better upgrade EV 9.0 to 64 bit first. Refer following document.

This is what I have done, new server with 2008 R2, but is it possible to run the migration wizards on 32bit and then directly upgrade to ev10 on 2008 R2??

Yes.

Server Settings Migration Wizard can take you from EV 9 to EV 10.

Getting mixed answers here? So can migrate EV 9.01 x32 to a new 2008 R2 server with EV 10 Installed but not configured with out upgrading to EV9 x64 first?

Appreciate your help on this.

Yes, you can migrate directly from EV 9.01 x32 to a new 2008 R2 server with EV 10 Installed

First of all there is no such thing as EV 9 x64.  Even with EV 10 only indexing is 64 bit.

Though you can install EV 9 on Windows 2008 R2 x64.

High level steps for migration from 32 bit to 64 bit, and skipping a version of EV:

Install EV 10 on the target server, but don't configure it... just lay down the binaries

Do some archiving suspension, backup, etc.

Run SSMW on the source server to create the migration package

Migrate data.

Update DNS

Run SSMW on target server to import the package

Reintroduce archiving, and other changes made at the beginning.

The alternative is to migrate EV 9 to EV 9 but no x64 OS.

All of the steps can be done manually or with SSMW.  There is a bunch of choices.

Many Thanks Rob.

We have just completed a successfull upgrade.

One last question we are currently using Backup Exec 2010 and i beleive this does not support EV10? For now can we use BE 2010 to backup EV10 for now and will this work if we need to restore in future?

Take a look at the screenshot from the Compatibility Charts.

Backup Exec 2010 can work with EV 10, but you need the R3 version, and a specific hotfix:
