  • 1.  Use Altiris 7.1 to Uninstall Microsoft Forefront

    Posted Jun 16, 2015 11:44 PM

    Hello all,

We are moving on from Microsoft Forefront to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6.  In our small test deployment we haven't had any luck removing Forefront using the built in uninstall competitors option via SEPM.  So I'm looking to see if we can utilize Altiris.  We didn't create a managed software item for Forefront as it was just part of the image.  When I go through the import software of the .exe that we use FEPInstall.exe I only see the install option.  Is there a way to add the commands to do a silent uninstall?  I've looked for commands but can't seem to find for this EXE.  My thought would be to create the policy to uninstall forefront then use the SEPM to push out Endpoint.  Thanks for any help and tips.

Yes we tried the built in option but in our initial testing it doesn't seem to work.  It installs Endpoint but leaves Forefront installed also.

Thanks we tried that yesterday with no luck.  For whatever reason forefront does not want to uninstall unless we do it manually.

You can try to create Batch file as per below articles and unistall client.

To uninstall from a command prompt

    1. Ensure that FPSP is not running.

      NoteNote:
In previous versions of FPSP, you were required to stop the Microsoft Forefront Server Protection Controller service prior to uninstalling FPSP. This is no longer the case.
    2. From the command prompt, start the uninstall program in one of the following ways:

      • Interactive uninstall (UI)—Type the following: Msiexec /x {823E3BED-156C-402A-9937-4040D02F3AE5} REMOVEDATA=1

      • Passive uninstall—Type the following: Msiexec /passive /x {823E3BED-156C-402A-9937-4040D02F3AE5} REMOVEDATA=1

      • Silent uninstall—Type the following: Msiexec /quiet /x {823E3BED-156C-402A-9937-4040D02F3AE5} REMOVEDATA=1
