Use the same backup job to write to 2 separate tapes

Created: 15 Oct 2012 • Updated: 09 Nov 2012 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I would like to run a backup job and create 2 tapes of the same job.  I have an Ultirum 4 - SCSI drive.  Ideally I would run the job and have it write to the two tapes at the same time (might need additional drives??) alternatively run the job, then write to a separate location then back onto a new tape having changed it.  Help please

Hi,

Easy enough...create the primary job that writes to tape, and then create a duplicate job that duplicates what's on that 1 tape to another.

You'd need another tape in your library/autoloader if you have that, and subsequently an LEO (Library Expansion Option) license. If this is a stand-alone drive, then you can get another stand-alone drive with no license implications.

Thanks!

two tapes at the same time

You can't write the same data on 2 tapes at the same time. Though you can create 2 jobs of the same kind going to 2 tapes at the same time but what is the use. For the DR purpose best to write the data first on tape and get it duplicated.on another tape. You will need 2 drives atleast for sure.

As per the above statement wink
