I have deliverables, but not UAT

We're planning Altiris 7 now, but I only have a deliverables list, not UAT.  Actually developing the UAT won't happen until the project launches.

Keep in mind your UAT will be customized in each environment.  Altiris CMS is a pretty large solution, and you can't assume that a project plan or UAT for one company will apply to the other.  Some companies will highly value feature X and not care about feature Y, yet another company will find both critical; a third may not care for either, and instead care about feature Z.  Your UAT, therefore, needs to be based on what is most important for your users.

Here is a sample of the features we said were important, but as I said, we haven't developed UAT plans for these features yet:

  • Altiris Agent installed on 100% of computers-to-be-managed
  • Altiris Agent add-ins installed on 100% of managed computers; include Software, Inventory, Application Metering
  • Altiris Agent and CMS7 solutions are deployed to production without impeding critical business processes
  • Altiris Agent communication occurs without degrading network performance
  • Altiris SMP/NS server performance is within Symantec's recommended performance thresholds (this is a KB article)
  • Altiris NS integrated with ActiveDirectory, security groups manage Altiris roles and privileges, collections are based on AD OUs
  • Maintenance windows have been agreed to by business, implemented in Altiris
  • Software deliveries have been created to replace all Altiris RIPs, remaining RIPs are converted to .exe's
  • pcAnywhere is installed on all managed computers
  • Altiris users have received training and documentation on 7.x features, all 6.x documentation is updated for 7.x
  • SQL database maintenance schedule in place according to Symantec recommendations

I think my UAT would actually focus on more user features; this deliverables list focuses a lot more on back-end items.  For example, my UAT would probably include successfully sending each job mentioned in the bulleted list (not just creating them, but sending them) to different computers on site.  It would probably include creating a report for management.  Usability isn't directly addressed in my deliverables list, it's more understood.

Functinallity Test for altiris modules

Thanks for response,
Actually, I am implementing Altiris 7 for all of Client Mgmt Suite I module (such as Inventory, S/W Delivery, Patch Mgmt, Application Metering, Application Mgmt, Deployment Solution & pcAnywhere) on our customer.

One of successful for implementation, I have asked to perform functionality test for those modules that will documented in UAT form so I need template/sample the UAT.

Thanks & rgds,
Hendardi
