  • 1.  User Access Control (UAC) prompts for credentials by smc.exe -stop and -start right after users logon

    Posted Mar 05, 2014 06:30 AM

    Last week we deployed sep 12.1 clients (32bit) to windows 7 clients.

    Right after users log in the users get an UAC prompt asking for credentials to run "smc.exe -stop" .

    Wheter i click on cancel or type in the admin credentials right after that, i get a new UAC prompt asking for credentials to run "smc.exe -start".

    Users dont have admin rights on machines.

    Pleassee help!

    You can Disabled UAC.

    Turn User Account Control on or off

    @rafeeq

    The UAC prompts before opening the endpoint protection. Users just log dont do anything and it prompts.

    @james007

    I've disabled uac with group policy, this seems to do the job.

    Hi,

    UAC can be configured to no longer prompt when software requires Administrative privileges to access portions of the operating system; however, Symantec recommends leaving this behavior at the default setting.

    Hmm, disabling UAC will obviously fix the issue

    on one machine, unisntall SEP

    install sep using admin rights

    setup.exe  ( right click and run as administrator option)

    UAC either needs to be turned off or configured to allow SEP to run.
