I've never tested this situation out, but does the shared mailbox get spam notification emails? If so, you should be able to simply click on the link in the email to get access to the spam quarantine like any other user would

Its a manual checking process where user logs on to the SBG and sees any spam for them and releases or deletes as necessary
thanks

Then I would suggest turning it on just for a day so they can get the email. The link in the email will allow them to go right to the quarantine with no log in.
This is documented here:
Title: 'No login credentials are asked when you click View link in the Quarantine Notification'
Document ID: 2007151145979898
> Web URL:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2007151145979898?Open&seg=ent
Then they can bookmark the link for easy access.

thanks for the advice --- are you able to selectively turn on the spam notifications ? -- we have around 1000 users and only a handful of shared mail boxes -- would be nice if we can get the email just to the shared mailbox users only
thanks
happy xmas :)
