User-Based Policies Not Working

Hey All,

I'm a bit new to the Altiris world (came from a long history of SMS/SCCM), so I appreciate any patience with regard to my ignorance of some aspects of the product.

We are currently on Altiris 7.0 but are in the midst of standing up 7.1 for testing and a migration shortly thereafter.

One feature I would like to employ the use of is user-based policies.  However, when I assign users to a particular policy in either 7.0 or 7.1, nothing happens.  I've tried restarting, logging in/logging out. confgiuration updates, etc.  I've seen on the forum that other people have gotten this to work so I assume that I am doing something wrong.

I've been testing this on a very basic level - I made a task that is a command script that contains an echo statement and a pause.  It works just fine when applied to computers.

I've been running under the assumption that under Install Dir\altiris\altiris agent\client policies, there are two xml files - one containing computer policies and one containing user policies.  The one that seems to be the computer policy file contains plenty of information about all policies that are applied to the computer.   However, the 2nd xml file, which indicates my username in the first line: <Policies lastUsed="Date/Time" userPolicy="Domain\Username" key="GJQaYYd9lr7FQFpngaJH+A=="/> contains nothing beyond the header.  Is there some step I'm missing or possibly some configuration or AD import function I'm missing?  We do a nightly active directory import of all users.  I've seen very limited documentation on how to set up user policies w/regard to Symantec documentation...

Does anyone have any suggestions for where I might be going wrong?  I'd love to be able to deploy user-based policies.

Thanks in advance for any advice/assisstance.

I pretty much gave up on this

I pretty much gave up on this functionality since we've had some much larger systemic issues we are trying to work through with 7.0/7.1.  :(  Hopefully it'll come back on my radar once if/when the other problems are resolved!  Or maybe someone else out here in the community knows something we don't?   Would be nice to use this as a targeting method.
