    Hi,

I have a problem in Altiris Notification Server 7.

I have improted a list of users and all loaded successfully, however I noticed the other day that some of these users are now shoing up in the all users report as <loginname>.<domain> e.g. "jsmith.mydomain" instead of "John Smith", I renamed all these users so they showed properly again with first and last name, however over the course of a day some users have started to revert to showing <loginname>.<domain>.

I am not running any Microsoft Active Directory Imports, as this was where I first suspected the problem lay.

Now I suspect that the computer inventory 'might' be picking these users up from machines that are being inventoried and is updating them this way - is this possible?

Can anyone please advise if they know what may be causing this to occur?

    Thanks

    M

    Hi again,

I have since realised that duplicate users are being created for these problem users.

I can't understand why the users name is being renamed  and then a duplicate created. It appears to always be the <username>.<domain> copy of the user that is the owner of assets. Why would this change from the one I uploaded from Excel?

I have looked at using the 'Duplicae User Merge' task to clean them up, but it always makes the <usrname>.<domain> the name of the user, I want their actual name i.e. John Smith.

    Thanks

    M

The firstname\lastname from Excel, the username\domain format is probably being captured by the Aex Client Logon event. You can turn this off by modifying the global settings in the targeted agent configuration.

    Thanks for this

Can you tell me where I might be able find these settings in NS7?

    Hi,

I have tried disabling this however the problem is still occuring.

There must be some other task that is running detecting user logins?

Is anyone able to provide anymore help or insight into this problem?

I have spoken with one other person who is experiencing it but does not have a solution.

    Thanks

does gather user information, which is outside the user logon. Manage - Policies - Discovery and Inventory - Inventory - Collect Full Inventory. You can disable the various data classes you don't use.

If that isn't it, and you have the logon box unchecked and you're not importing users from AD or some other method, the only other thing I can think of is the basic inventory, which is usually reported by each client system once a day.

Try to determine the threshold of when you see the data show up. Is is daily, weekly, what?
