  • 1.  Users from different site get updates from locally or remotely?

    Posted Oct 30, 2013 12:54 AM

    Dear community,

    My current setup:

I have 5 SEPM each belonging to different site.

    Eg:

    SEPM 1 @ Site 1

    SEPM 2 @ Site 2

SEPM 3 @ Site 3, An Offshore site with GUP

    ...

    ...

It is configured in such a way that clients belonging to site 1 gets updates from SEPM 1, users from site 2 gets updates from SEPM 2 so on and so forth.

    My question:

    1. If roaming users from site 1 is at site 2, how will the roaming users get updates? Will it look for symantec's server or will it look for SEPM1? or Will it look for SEPM2 @ site 2?

    2. There is a GUP @ off shore site. If roaming users from site 1 is at the offshore site, will it look for updates from the GUP, or symantec's server or SEPM 3?

Ultimately, what I want to achieve is, if possible, romaing users shall connect to the SEPM or GUP for that is nearest to them.

Is this achieveable? If yes, what is the configuration to be done?

    Thanks for help.

the MSL and location awareness will play the role in determining which SEPM to contact.

can you check the explicit GUP

Thanks both! That is some useful information on GUP.

Out of my 5 sites, 2 sites are configured to use GUP for offshore site.

Site 1,2 and 5 does not have GUP configured

What happens if if the roaming user which is originally from site 1 travels to site 2?

Site 2 does not have a GUP, so is there any way to force the roaming user to connect to the SEPM in site 2 for updates?
