Using inventory data for capacity planing

We are looking for a way to record disk usage for servers, so that we can look at disk growth trends over a period.

The idea is to use data from inventory scans and using export rule to drop the results from the report in to a text file or CSV which we can create a report/graph out of at a later date.

Another Idea someone has suggested is that you can create a data class in asset solution to record the disk used space against, and report on this... but I don't know how to do this.

I'm hoping that someone out there know how to do this. Or maybe some ideas on how else we can achieve reporting of disk growth trends.

Thanks in advanced.

Mick.

Hi Mick,

You can enable History on various data classes, including AeX HW Logical Disk. This is located on the Configuration tab under Server Settings > Notification Server Settings > Resource History.

Be careful about which data classes you enable history on; depending on how frequently they are updated/change it can grow your database dramatically if not done carefully. You'll then need to create reports to track the changes across the drives from day to day/week to week. You may also need to adjust your Inventory packages configuration to capture the relevant data on the interval you want to monitor it by.

Thanks,
Kyle
