Using Isilon storage as DSU (Storage Unit Group)

Created: 31 May 2009 • Updated: 22 May 2010 | 2 comments

Greetings, First time to get on this site and at first glance,  looks to be a wealth of information very well organized.

However, I don't see a place to open a case with Symantec regarding Netbackup. So I'll enter a note here (after first searching for isilon).

We have Solaris NBU 6.5.3 Master, and 2 Linux 6.5.3 Media Servers.

Our primary destination for Full weekly backups are 2 DataDomain (690 + 690G) VTL + DSU.

One of our primary destinations for Differentials has been a 6 node Isilon Cluster configured as a Storage Unit Group (Round Robin between each member). It is NFS mounted on the Master.

I am seeing "media open error" when I try and restore from the Isilon. Had a real restore request last week, and need to go back to a previous full for the restore. I've since tried a lot of restores from the Isilon and haven't had a single one complete  - always get the "media open error".

I can provide more details tomorrow when I get in and do some more tries.

So, is anyone using Isilon in a Storage Unit Group and having success at restores?

Thanks,
Randy

You can raise non critical cases through symantec website https://mysupport.symantec.com.

Increase the verbosity of bptm log and do the restore again and check what error you get specific to that restore in bptm logs

What is the syntax you used when mounting the NFS volume? You may want to check this KB article to see if this applies to you: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/293098.htm
