  • 1.  Using "NIC description" criteria in SEP Locations

    Group,
I am wondering if anyone used "NIC description" criteria when creating custom location. I have created a simple criteria shown below and for the life of me can't figure out why it's not working. I will enable both Local and Wireless network adapters and connect, and SEP won't detect the change and will not place me in this location.

As a separate question on the same topic, does anyone know if you can use wildcards in NIC description, i.e. "Local Area Connection*" to cover the various connection names that machines have? Machine may have more then one NIC, and as a result would have a number at the end of description..
    Thanks in advance,

    Dimitri

Try using the name of the network adapter that appears under 'Network adapters' in Device manager.

    Sandip,
Thanks but admin guide is pretty useless when it comes to real-world examples of custom policy criteria creations. I did go through it and it has as much (or as little) help as the "Help" button within the app itself, which pretty much gives you a description of the field in question.

Many thanks for the heads-up, using adapter name in Device Manager indeed works!
Now, does anyone know if wildcards can be used? In dynamic environment, you may have thousands of different cards for both wired and wireless Ethernet..

Well that was the solution for this problem (adding the name of the network adapter). I am not sure if the original poster ended up being able to use wildcards to set up a large environment, is this what you are asking? Whether or not there was a solution to setting up the big environment? This is why it is better to make a new post and not post on the bottom of "similar problems" because there is no way for us to know exactly what you are experiencing vs what they experienced. So you should make a new post and provide a link to this one if you think it is relavent. This also saves people time from having to scroll through very old posts to get to your problem.

    Cheers
