Using SEP on a stand alone computer

  • 1.  Using SEP on a stand alone computer

I have one 'stand alone' computer that is running Windows7 Starter and wanted to use one of my SEP licenses to install anti-virus and firewall on it.  Since is it the Starter edition it does not have the capability to log into the domain.  Does anyone know how I package and deploy SEP to this computer?

You can copy the package locally on the the computer and then you can run the setup from there.

Or you can install it from the instlation DVD or CD.

Just copy the files and execute it.

Whether this PC is connected to lan?If it is connected to lan you can copy from a network share. If no you have to use some removable media to copy the installation package to this computer.Log on locally and copy the SEP folder inside the media to this computer and run setup file from it.You can use intelligent updater for updating this client..

If you want to install SEP as unmanaged , then just copy the SEP folder and then run the Setup.exe

If you want to install SEP as manged then you then to create a package from the SEPM anc copy that package from the SEPM on the client machine and then run the setup

Creating custom client installation packages in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console

    Aravind:

    1.  This is a netbook running Windows 7 starter, I can not connect to a domain and therefore can not copy to it or get to computers on my network so I will be using a thumb drive to transfer over any package etc that I need to run to install SEP.

    2. What files?  What am I transferring over so that I can run SEP on this netbook?

Is there a FAQ or a link or something I can read that tells me how to do this?

What I did to is this:

    1. On SEPM Amin, Install packages, I highlighted the SEP client for win32bit in the client install packages window
    2. I then click the 'Export Client Install Package'
    3. Selected a folder on the SEPM server to export the package, selected up 'Export an Unmanaged Client'
    4. Unchecked the 'export packages with the policies from the following groups'
    5. The window tells me that the package size will be 95.84Meg

I then press the 'OK' button and it generates a subfolder called 'Export' and places a setup file in that folder.

I can then take and put this on a thumb drive and then install it on the netbook.

    Is this Correct?

In CD1 of the SEP download that you might have or you can create an unmanged package from the SEPM  and install it on the client

    Hi

If you open the Symantec Endpoint Protection CD1, in that you would find the folder "SEP" which can be used to install the client
