  • 1.  Using Software Catalog Data Provider

    Dear All,

    I need to use the Software Catalog Data Provider to import the definitions of software to the CMDB. The whole of my company's estate is not rolled out, but I need to attach the Software Licenses to the Software Products.

    I have Gathered the data from the Software Catalog Data Provider quite happily and when I go to the Data Provider Summary, I can see the software I need to connect with.

    I right-mouse-click the item (such as GoLive CS2) and then select either "Import data only" or "Import data and package" and the product disappears from the list.

    However, when I go back to the list of Software Products, I cannot see the product as imported.

    Where am I going wrong?

    Dear All,

    The "Ahhhhhhh" was about that it was in my understanding of what the Software Catalog Data Provider was doing that I was mistaken. It is downloading Software Components, NOT Software Products!

    I found the new Software Product in the "Manage Software Catalog" Silverlight Console when I tick the checkbox of "Show all software".

    So, I still have to make the mapping between the Software Component and the Software Package.

    The "oh!" is about the fact that in the Software Component that is downloaded, there are no values in the "File Inventory" or the Inventory Rules. I really thought that I would not need to set those up?!

    Also, is there a place where I can look at a Software Product and find the Software Components attached to it? I cannot find such a Report and I'd be grateful to find it...
