Vault store for Archiving, a question

Created: 12 Jul 2013 • Updated: 25 Sep 2014 | 7 comments

I can't seem to find an answer. I need to set up a vault store. Does this have to be directly attached (the server) the the BE server? I don't see the option when I'm using only my NAS. thanks

Hi Gossett,

See these links about using a NAS for disk storage and the Archiving option: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO74031  ,  http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO73419

I tried that. However under the 'disk storage' option the following is all I see:

There is no option for vault or a number of the other options.

Have you installed the Archive option?

For your NAS, if it is capable of using iSCSI, then you can attached it to your server as a local disk.

I don't see it so i'd guess no. Wouldn't I have to uninstall and then re install the server (thus losing my schedule, etc...)?

This is just a licensed option.  You don't uninstalll any software, just licenses.

You should be able to use for the archiving options either direct attached disk (DAS) or a UNC path  (NAS) no problem.

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."

If you find that the 'lite' option that is  part of Backup Exec does not give you enough capability or customization options then you may need to check-out Enterprise Vault (separate product). The option in Backup Exec actaully uses technology from Enterprise Vault.
