  • 1.  VBS Staying running under Task Status

    Afternoon everyone.  I have a Software deployment that runs a VBS script to install some software and prereqs.  The software and prereqs install fine, but the VBS job under Task Status -> Results stays at the Running state.  Why does it not say complete like it should?

    Do you have a msgbox or something at the end of the script that says done our something? If ite isn't visible then the script will keep running.

    Are you sure it isn't still running?  I bet it is...

    We are having what could be the same problem. Tasks including simple one-line test scripts run on the target machine, but they stay in status Running and never report back complete. We've determined that it only affects certain machines, though it's a large number at 100-125.

    When I run a task with just a pause, AeXAgentDesktop.exe is spawned correctly on the target machine. After hitting a key it exits and the process is no longer visible in Windows Task Manager. However, it will show as Running in Altiris until it times out, and then show as failed.

    Check Task History and see if it looks like the one I have attached. The tasks are actually running so I don't think it's a configuration issue. I'm still trying to narrow it down to see what the problem machines have in common. I'll share whatever I find.

    Do you currently have "save script output" checked inside the tasks advanced settings? Disable that and try again if so... Let us know if it resolves your issue.

    For anyone coming across this thread...

    We determined that completely removing the client using AexAgentUtil /clean, removing the folders and registry keys, and then reinstalling, fixes the problem on the affected machines. I am currently trying to narrow down and then automate the process.

    I contacted Symantec support and a V3 rollup hotfix seems to have solved our problem.
