This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi Team ,

We have recently procured Veritas netbackup Capacity based license.

We need to take client backups over SAN.

Does Capacity based license provide this feature or we need to procure additional Media / SAN client licenses ?

Capacity license enables all agents and options.

The Partner badge next to your name indicates that you are working for a Symantec Partner?

This gives you access to PartnerNet from where you can download the NetBackup Licensing Guide.

Hi ,

I read it in licensing guide hence got confused.

Normally we make dataabase client as media server and zone tape drive to it and take backup over san.

More no of database licenses more media server licenses.

How its gonna be incase of capacity based license.?

Where i need to zone my tape drive?

Have a look at this topic in the Licensing Guide:

Platform Base Features and Product Inclusion

You will see all agents and options included in the list.
SAN media server is part of Enterprise Client license.

You can install as many SAN or Media servers as you like, as many db agents as you like, share tape drives with Shared Storage Option.

The only thing you need to be concerned about is the total amount of data across all clients in your environment.
NBU will not stop working if data on clients grow to more than you are licensed for - just purchase additional capacity when annual maintenance is due.

generally we do not recommend database to be SAN media servers.. (increases CPU overhead) instead go with FT-SAN client... (Enteprise Client license can be used for SAN media server as well for SAN client.)

You would need separate RHEL or SLES based server with specific  Qlogic HBA in it. Zone your tape drives to this server only and you are able to stream multiple SAN clients (multiple database servers to this FT server)

Revised Capacity license bundles everything (Dedupe as well) except Media Server encryption OPtion (MSEO) which is sold separately.

Read NetBackup Admin guide for SAN client for more info......

 Cheers !!!
