Hi

I would like to use Veritas Storage Foundation HA for improve redundancy for our Oracle Databases.

I have two questions regarding above subject.

1)

Is one 'Veritas Storage Foundation HA' license is for two servers or I need two licences one for each server ?

All servers have one CPU.

2)

I have two datacenters

DC A

Two Oracle T4 servers with Oracle DB and Solaris 11

DC B

Two IBM Intel servers with Oracle DB and RedHat Linux Enterprise 6

Can I use Geo Cluster and Volume Replicator between Solaris and Linux servers with different CPU architecture ?

If not what about changing RedHat Linux for Solaris 11 for Intel processors ?

Rob

You need a license for each server, VCS is not licensed per cluster as you can have at least 32 nodes (I think is it 64 these days) in a cluster.

You can use VVR between different platforms, however the problem is that Solaris Sparc and Linux Intel have different file system Endians (different byte orders) and this is to do with the architacture so Solaris x64 won't help (Solaris and Linux on Sparc are Big Endian and Solaris and Linux on x64 on Little Endian).  You can read more about this in the "Cross-platform Data Sharing in VVR" section in the VVR admin guide

The other issue is that VCS Global Cluster Option does not support clusters on different platforms - see extract from VCS admin guide in section "Prerequisites for global clusters":

Clusters must be running on the same platform; the operating system versions
can be different. Clusters must be using the same VCS version.

Hi Rob,

The licensing depends on the price tier. I would recommend getting in touch with the Sales/ Support team. They should be able to guide you on what licensing suits your needs best.

Best Regards,
