Versions and release dates
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
Question - for Altiris related solutions, is this considered the best available link for current versions and documentation available ?
http://www.altiris.com/Support/Documentation.aspx
Question - is there a general link available that would list when future releases are expected ?
Or is it best to ask via Connect on a solution by solution basis so the specific product development team can answer ?
Obviously any general link would not have a "hard date" for a future release....but it would be helpful to have that estimate for planning purposes.
Thank you.

Under interrogation, I don't have to give
anything other than my name, rank and serial number. :)
Hi Frank, how have you been?
The documentation site is really the best for the updated release notes and product manuals.
There is no publicly available site for expected releases. I think the individual Product Managers know this, but hold it close to their respective vests. There isn't even really a way to tell from participating in a beta when something will go live.
Sounds like a great "Idea" to post on the Idea tab? Expected Release Dates (even by Quarter) with the caveat that the date can change at any time (or whatever the legal equiv. of that is). Kind of like Valve and Half Life 2, Episode 3.

IDEA
Geneva Convention rules apply for interrogations of this kind but we have ways of making of you talk.....kidding of course :-)
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything and it sounds like I'm not. I appreciate your suggestion to post it on the IDEA tab. I might do that later. I'm not looking for anything carved in granite but there is sometimes a much preferred "order" to how things should go. So even just a general best guess-estimate would be somewhat helpful to help clients for planning when/how to do things.
I'd like to have an official place like that to look at rather than relying on the unofficial "word on the street".
Thanks.

Frank, I'd say...just ask
Frank,
I'd say...just ask Uncle Nick or Dan. He'll get dates out of those darned PMs! At one point (pre-acquisition) I was getting a "release list" email a few times a month. I think it had tentative release dates (or even firm ones, once the time was near) and other "upcoming" information. I haven't seen that one for quite some time. I'll do some checking on that, see if I can't dig up one of the old ones. Maybe it was a special "partner" website...? Dunno, it has been a while!
Agreed though, some kind of "tentative release dates" schedule would be VERY beneficial. If/when you post the Idea, link it back on this thread.
Thanks,
Kyle

when you got those notices, I distinctly remember that you were supposed to read and then eat or burn them. The first rule about "early release and bug notifications" is that you don't TALK about early release and bug notifications. I can't really remember what the second rule was about though...
