very long retention

Hello,
The customer ask us to keep some monthly backups for an abnormal retention: 20 years!
We have to consider also:
the compatibility for the future type of client that will have to restore these backups;
the compatibility for the future type of tape drives with the actual type of cartridge - LTO3;
normally we manage our yearly retention backups with SLP and vault policies, we move from a DataDomain disk pool to a LTO3 library.
Do you have some hints? Has Netbackup some specific feature for this kind of scenario?

Rather consider Archiving as
Rather consider Archiving as a solution.
A good archiving product is 'future proof' because of the format that archived data is written.

Backup is for crash recovery
Backup is for crash recovery not for long term archive.
A archiving solution should also have meta data associated with the data stored. In 20 year nobody can recall what file xys contained, or on what server the file was stored.
And as you mentioned yourself - further data format is a unsure business.
Netbackup is unable to store data beyond 2038 due to a Y2K like issue.
Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.
