View of Computer Groups in Remote Deployment Console
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 4 comments
We are going to decomission our existing Altiris Deployment Solution server so we have built a new one and I have configured everything the same (as far as I can tell) between the two servers as far as permissions, security groups, etc.
We have the Deployment Console installed on a librarians computer and when she would open the console (when connecting to original Altiris server) she could only see the computer group called 'Media Center'.
I uninstalled that console and reinstalled from the new Altiris server. When she opens the console she can now see all of the computer groups and system jobs. I only want her to be able to see that one computer group.
What am I missing? I must have permissions messed up somewhere.
Thanks for any help.

Guess...
Did you set the permissions on the computer objects? You may want to set the permissions on the all computers and deligate the permissions down, then change the permissions for the subfolders. That is assumming you forgot the computer permissions and it is not something else. Which version of the DS are you using? Are they both the same version?
On the 'all computers'
On the 'all computers' folder there are no permissions set for the user group the librarian is in. But on the sub-folder (called 'Media Center') the user group does have permissions set.
We don't have any computers moved over to this server just yet so there are no computers beneath the folders yet.
The version on the old server is 6.9
The version on the new server is 6.9 SP1.
Just a Tickbox
Hi.
This problem is quite an easy one to fix.
Login to the main Deployment console and navigate like so;
Close the client Deployment console,
Click "Tools"
Click "Options"
Select the "Global" tab
A few tick boxes up from the bottom you should see "Display only computers & jobs the user has the right to manage" that will be unselected.
Tick it.
Open the client console again.
Awesome. I figured it was
Awesome. I figured it was something simple. Thanks.
