I am going to package SWV layers for multiple customers.

Can i use one virtual composer for this? Where i can download it?

Or do i need to get from my customers their own virtual composer media and use diffrent virtual composer installation for every customer?

Greetings Aku,

Sorry it has taken so long for someone to post here. If you still need the information, here it is.

To get the latest version of the Virtual Composer you can visit this article:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO77642

These two packages allow the installation of the Streaming or the Workspace Virtualization Products. Both use the same package format.

Download either of those two installation packages, and then once you have extracted the Zip Files you should find the Virtual Composer installation files in a folder.

As to the licensing aspects of the software, I can't help you there.

Regards,

Russ

Hello Aku,

I am interested in hearing your feedback and any input you have with Symantec Virtual Composer?

Kind Regards,

Hi

Well I hope Symantec is going to develop Composer (a lotsmiley).

Perhaps most urgent is that the usage logic needs some work. I am not always sure what is saved to package and what is not.

Some things like edit multiple shortcuts is pretty hard. One annoying thing is that Composer crashes very easily -> I press “save” all the timecool

I get the job done with the Composer, but there is always a lot ninja work to get to goal.

Is there coming any improvements? I tested some 7.5 beta version and the Composers UI looked same as nowfrown

Hello Aku,

Many thanks for your feedback and this is something that i am working on.  I have already recieved some great ideas for improvements in Virtual Composer.  If you have sometime in the near future i would like to have a WebEx to go through some of the ideas and also to get your input as well.

Please email me your contact details and I will set something up soon.

Aku,

I'm not 100% sure about the license but if I recall correctly the license is node based; which means the SWV agent installed on the computer which the customer needs a license for. So there should not be a problem creating virtual "packages" using the composer (or the admin-tool).

Yes I ended in same conclusion. Hoping I get it rightangel

Aku,

I would suggest to create package/layer using the same version of VIrtual Composer the customer has got.  Layers created in latest or higher version is not supported in lower version of SWV, if there is a change in layer format between the version you're creating and one customer is using.

I would recommend to use same version of Virtual composer as customer has to create layer.  Virtual composer comes with default trial license, so that should not be a problem but you need to watch out for application license which you're trying to create layer.

One suggestion regarding license information for differet customers would be to create the layer without the license information and then create a patch which contains the customer's license information which you then apply as customer specific. Think of it as an MSI and an MST which contains the customer specific information.

Hello AngelD,

Many thanks for your suggestion and i have done something similar for e.g. Adobe configurations though i found your suggestion regarding licensing interesting.

Would you be able to contact me @ Joseph_Carson@Symantec.com and provide further samples of this?

Kind Regards,
