I'm currenlty using this, but I'm not really sure how often this should be run. Is it ideal for this to be run before an virtual image cloning event? Or just run it after the initial full scan?

You would run after running a full scan and ensuring all comes back clean.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

Q.I'm currenlty using this, but I'm not really sure how often this should be run. Is it ideal for this to be run before an virtual image cloning event? Or just run it after the initial full scan?

--> After the initial full scan.

You can use the Virtual Image Exception tool on a base image before you build out your virtual machines.

As you know detail steps are given in this article: https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO55325.html

Also, there are some broken links in this article but now I have requested concern team to fix them ASAP.

I understand that, but how often does it need to be run? Should a full scan +vietool exception be performed monthly?

Does it just need to be run once when the initial OS is installed or is it recommended to run it later on down the road when additional apps and updates are installed?

--> I believe you can run it later on as well when additional apps and updates are installed. But you need to update SEPM accordingly becuase after you run the Virtual Image Exception tool on base image files, you can enable the use of Virtual Image Exceptions in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. Once the feature is enabled, virtual clients look for the attribute that the tool inserted. Symantec Endpoint Protection then skips the scanning of base image files that contain the attribute.

I would run it any time your image is changed/updated
