This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

Is it possible to virtualize the MS Office Compatibility Pack 2007, because I'm having problems with this.

I've installed MS Office 2003 in a virtual layer with the installation path other than default, because of the Short File Name issue in SWV.

But when you install MS Office Compatibility Pack 2007 in the same (or another) layer, it will install in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12"!
Is there a way to install this Compatibility Pack in another folder, which has no issue with the short file names?

The second problem I have with the Compatibility Pack is that it will install Fonts, like Office does. I've found these Fonts in the Font table of the extracted MSI

CompPackFonts.jpg

Should these fonts be removed from the MSI and installed in the base?

regards,
Matthias

is MS Compatibility Pack 2007 supported?

Is the MS Compatibility Pack 2007 supported by Symantec Workspace Virtualization?

yes it is but I'm not aware

yes it is but I'm not aware of a way to get around the short file name outside of a convoluted way.

So here's what you do.

Figure out how many other Micros~ there are.  On XP there's always at least one, Microsoft frontpage.  For each folder that will cause a short filename, outside of your install location, recreate that folder inside your layer.

So, for example, on a base XP machine you've got Microsoft Frontpage on the machine.  inside your layer create a empty folder named Microsoft Frontpage inside of program files.  Now when you capture the compatibility pack, since there's already a ~1 inside the layer it will default to ~2.

The fonts only need to be copied out of the layer if they conflict with on inside the base (same name, different version).

send me an email

Send me an email and i will give you the layer.
I have it build and it is free of license codes, so you can have it.
