Hi,
i was wondering if there is a method to SVSing applications wich require rebooting of the machine. This because as far as i've understood SVS can operate when it's active and upon a reboot it isn't active anymore so it can't catch the "rebooting changes".
Or i'm missing something?
There are some particular procedures to catch correctly this "rebooting" applications?

Thanks

Virtualizing with SVS reboot

There are several way's to face this.
Most of the applications that need a reboot will start the configuration after you logged on, and start the application.
So in this case you have enough time to update the existing layer, and do a global capture to capture the afterboot changes. there is a good description on the juice. Search for daemon tools.
The applications that end their configuration after the reboot and do this silent, can not be done with SVS. For these apps you need Wise package studio.

But i also cann tel you a little secret.
Most applications that need a reboot and then do the configuration silent can be done on a vista machine.
Because vista does not need the reboot.
Simply click computer run, and givein the command shutdown -A.
then click reboot, and hit enter for the run command.
The application than thinks the reboot has been done, but you stop it with the shutdown commando.
The only thing you need to do is to be very and i really mean very fast with confirming the run command.

Virtualizing with SVS reboot

I see. So you're saying that there are two options:
The first with Vista that teorically don't ask to reboot after the installing, while the same application on XP ask to restart.
The second, is with Wise packager that (as far as i've read) can create SVS installation, "simulating" a reboot inside its protected virtual space?
Is that correct?
I'll try with Vista first, in the other case i'll think about Wise.
Thanks
