Virus def drive out of free space.

SEPM 11 drive is out of free space. I don't want to uninstall and reinstall the console to a different drive. Is there a way to move virus def to a different drive?

Virus defs cannot be move off of C:, they are hard-coded to install there and unfortunately this cannot be changed as of now

    See if this link helps:

    Whats your complete version ?

Earlier versions of SEP 11 used to take lot of disk space.  there are few settings which you can set to minimize the disk space. If properly configured you dont have to move the SEPM to a different drive

\1) Delete the unused defs from

    C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Protection manager\Inetpub\content

Delete all the contents Inside the Alpahnumeric folder ( not the alphanumeric folder)

    2) Change the number of content revison to keep as 4 under liveupdate tab, here are the steps

    1. Log on to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
    2. Click on Admin > Servers > Local Site and under Tasks, click Edit Site Properties.
    3. Click the LiveUpdate tab.
    4. Under Disk Space Management for Downloads, adjust the number of content revisions to keep.
    5. Click OK.

    3) You can use the microsoft tool Junctionpoint to mount the defs to different drive, all the required info here

    Follow this

    You can do the following:

    1. change the number of revisions retained by the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    2. edit the database retention settings for the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to help save disk space:

If you upgrade the LUA to version 2.3.2 this allows you to adjust the location temporary and defintion location on the LUA. Versions below that only allow the temporary directory location.

    Configure > Preferences

Can I install new ver on top of the existing one or do I need to uninstall old ver first?

It's an uninstall and re-install unfortunatly. Take a backup of settings from within the LUA using the backup feature and you can restore them on the new LUA
