  • 1.  Virus Definition status shows "waiting for updates" when non admins log into client computer

    Posted May 30, 2013 07:58 AM

I just set up SEP 12.1 and have had no problems pushing and pulling packages to workstations, servers - all communications work properly.

Yesterday I dumped the first new jdb (WE HAVE NO INTERNET CONNECTION) into the incoming box and it processed fine.  All machines got the update.

PROBLEM: When a non administrator logs into a client computer and clicks on the Symantec Icon in the systray, it shows under Status "Virus and Spyware Protection" Definitions: Waiting for Updates

If I log into any machine with a non admin account it shows this.  Log right back in to any machine with an admin account and I see that Waiting for Updates is replaced by the latest definition date.  Log right back out and in with a non admin account, it goes back to Waiting for Updates.

SEPM shows all these machines are up to date as well.

While this may seem cosmetic, our users are highly security conscious and need to be able to see that their machine is up to date

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

Ambesh - I cannot post screenshots/logs etc - this is a self contained network and nothing leaves it - I wish i could

K33 - Thanks for the reply, I had already read the first link, but it never got answered and I had already used the articles in the second link when setting up the system

    The search for answers continues!

I upgraded to RU2 and everything started working perfectly - then I accidentally clicked on a windows 7 install package setup.exe while building them and it hosed the SEPM connection to the database - I am reverting to the RTM snapshot and building again, but at least now I know RU2 fixes all my issues.

    Thanks for the help!
