  • 1.  Virus Definitions and sys logs filling up disk drive

I am running symantec AV 10x and have a problem where the virus definitions and and the sys logs are taking up a lot of  space on one of my drives.
Is it possible to delete the virus definition files (old ones) and the log files?

Virus Def files are in in the C:\Programme Files\Common Files\Symantec shared\virusdefs\XXXX
Also in here are quite a few temp folders.  Can these be deleted also?

    Log files are in C:\Documents and settings\all users\application data\SYMANTEC\SYMANTEC antivirus\cororate edition\7.5\logs

As well as these files there are a lot of files that im not sure what they are:
    .vdb
    .VDB
    .vntr
    .vw9
    .vw3
    .vnw
    ?????
    Can these be deleted.

Is it possible to redirect where it saves the virus definitions.  Could I save these on to another drive for example

Yes the files can  be deleted

It is not possible to redirect them as the path is specfied by design

Growing .vdb and .tmp means that there could be  a possibilty that the virus defntion could have corrupted.

in order to delte the files you have to  stop Symantec AntiVirus service . and  delete the content of

    1. Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs

    2.  delete from <\Program Files\SAV   all the files with extension *.tmp, *.vdb, *.xdb, *.wdb

    3.  delete the content of \Program Files\SAV \I2_LDVP.VDB\

    4. delete the content of \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads

    5. start Symantec AntiVirus service

    Go to http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=savce

and download  Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition Client installations on Windows platforms (32-bit)

    Cheeck this too
