  • 1.  Virus definitions not being updated for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1.4.4000.

    Posted May 29, 2014 04:35 PM

I am running Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.1.4.4000.
My environment contains of a central server running 'Symantec System Center', and it manages multiple Win 2003 nodes that run AV nodes.

I noticed that in the system center, there was a yellow warning sign next to all the hosts. so i right click on them, and find out their virus definitions are old.

So I first run Live update on system center itself, and it says everything is up to date. But the version still shows as '7/5/2013 rev. 2'.

Assuming Symantec Virus definitions were not stopped in 07/05, Symantec System Center is either unable to download the latest virus defintions, or it is failing to push them out to all the nodes.

Any ideas why this is happening?

The Symantec version we have has been discontinued. Could this be the problem?

See below for screenshots of stuff mentioned above.

    Thanks.

Thank you for the quick response.
Sorry to bother you again, but do you know of any online resource (link or document) that says this in print, so i can use it to push my boss for an upgrade/update.

    Hi amd2014,

I recommedn that you securre your environment as soon as possible with a modern solution.  No customer should continue to use SAV 10 at this point.  I recommend that only SEP 12.1 with correct configuration should be used against today’s threats.

SAV was a fine product when that SBS server was released, 10 years ago. Threats have evolved since then. Continuing to rely upon an unsupported product like that for defense of your servers, workstations and all the data they hold is very dangerous.
