Pls run NONAV if you are

Pls run NONAV if you are using SAV ver 10.x / cleanwipe for SEP 11.0 to remove completely..

Restart and re-install the AV. Update the definition and scan the machine in Safe mode with System Restore OFF.

Also make sure that your machines are also up-to-date with MS patches.

Rgrds,
SAM

Re

Hi,

Which ver of Symantec you are using?

Have you run full scan in safe mode after applying latest Rapid Release?

Regards, M.R

It has to be a two pronged

It has to be a two pronged approach.

  • Remove AV, reinstall AV
  • Update defs, scan in safe mode and update all patches.
  • Run the removal tools also

Version needed

Plz let me know the version of the antivirus you are running. Please install the latest antivirus version after uninstalling the corrupted one by using nonav or cleanwipe utility. Reboot the PC and install the antivirus software again, update it, run full scan.

That's very common nowadays...

That's the trend nowadays. The virus if its new it will first attack the the antivirus and then download other virus that would have been caugh by symantec.
I would suggest you to Map the drive of this computer to any other computer with updated virus definitions and scan that drive.
If still nothing is detected. It might be a rootkit that is hiding from the User Level and sitting down in Kernel level.
Run Rootkit Revealer from Sysinternal or IceSword to find out if there is any rootkit.

You can also try downloading and running Norton Security SCAN tool and run a scan from that or run an online scan.

I think, you should try to

I think, you should try to scan your computer with any another updated antivirus in Safe Mode. If your problem still same then, I think you need re-format of your hard drive and reinstall windows.
Before format you can take backup of all important data in any another hard drive.

If you have a fully updated

If you have a fully updated antivirus then how your pc got infected . ask symantec why they are taking license fees if their product can't do the job.
