vm.conf file

It is the media and device (volume) manager configuration file for the media server.
I understand what this file do on master server.
1.But what this does on my media server?
SERVER = host_name.
What this does 
 3.MM_SERVER_NAME = host_name
What this is for?
I am reading the vol 2 if unix admin guide.

]$ cat vm.conf
MEDIA_ID_BARCODE_CHARS = 0 8 1:2:3:4:5:6
MEDIA_ID_BARCODE_CHARS = 1 8 1:2:3:4:5:6
on media server:
-bash-3.2$ cat vm.conf
MM_SERVER_NAME = uxnbu23
