Hi,

For testing, I tred to configure Netbackup appliance 5220 (master/media server) with VMWare hotadd backup, while I try to configure backup host as Netbackup appliance 5220. its giving error as ¨VMware credential validation failed MM STATUS -999¨

as per symantec document, this error is due to backup host is not supporting with linux, yes because Netbackup applaince 5220 is Linux OS,

so, we need seperate windows server to configure backup host for vmware hotadd backup, if we use Netbackup appliance 5220 ?

can any one guide me ?

Hi,

I got answer.

My environment

Appliance version is 2.0.2
Netbackup version 7.1.0.7

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH127089

NetBackup appliance as backup host
Starting with the NetBackup appliance version 2.5, the appliance is supported as
the VMware backup host. A separate Windows host is not required for the backup
host.
For further information on the appliance as backup host, see the NetBackup for
VMware Administrator's Guide 7.5.0.x:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5605
Note the following:
■ The appliance must be version 2.5 or later. If the master server is on a separate
host (not on the backup host), the master server must use NetBackup 7.5.0.1
or later.
■ On the host that runs the NetBackup Administration Console or the Backup,
Archive, and Restore interface, NetBackup must be at 7.5.0.1 or later.
■ You must use the VMware policy type. The FlashBackup-Windows policy type
is not supported.
■ The appliance does not support iSCSI connections.
