VMWare Guest O/S support

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Are Symantec looking to increase the support of the VMWare Guest O/S for the different varients of Linux, at present 7.x supports RHEL & SUSE but not Centos or Ubuntu, when adding these to a VMWare FlasBackup policy it complains about not being able to create snapshots for clients with these particular Operating Systems.

Hi Kevin,

NBU supports virtual machine backup for any OS supported by VMWare regardless of whether we support it or not so you can recover the whole VM, however, if you want to do granular recovery (i.e. restore individual files from a VMDK backup) then that is only offered for RH and SUSE currently.

I will check if we have plans to extend this to other operating systems and come back to you.

Hi Jason,

Many thanks for the response, it looks like a configuration issue on my side, if I select the clients using the VM Display Name I get the issue with the SnapShot error; however if I use the VM Hostname this then functions correctly, I will have a word with our VM admin and see why the hostnames are different to the display names.

Hi Jason,

Just for information, I have tested the restore of individual files from the CentOS and Ubuntu VMDK backups and we can do restores from CentOS but not from Ubuntu, this may be down to CentOS being derived from the RHEL software.
